Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti is confident his side will bounce back from Tuesday’s Champions League quarter-final first leg at Arsenal to make up for their 2-1 home defeat to Valencia, Diario AS reports on Monday.
Ancelotti has explained what his side need to do to bounce back after Saturday’s home defeat to Valencia: ‘We need character, we need to be at our best, it’s important to run the game well.’
‘The only thing I asked was to prepare well before the match and we did it. There was a perfect opponent in front of us, who plays well in the low block, handles the transition well. We had to have a clear approach and follow it.’
Ancelotti also spoke about Vinicius Junior, who was booed by Madrid fans in the last game, saying: ‘I haven’t spoken to him, I don’t need to. I know he can play better, but whenever he doesn’t, he plays better in the next game.’
Asked who will take the penalty from now on after Vinicius missed again against Valencia, the Italian replied: ‘We have thought about it and tomorrow we will try to deal with it.’
Asked whether Federico Valverde will play at right-back or midfield tomorrow, Ancelotti said: ‘There are still doubts. He is good at both positions. We will see how he can add to the team.’
Given Real Madrid’s recent poor form, which has led many to worry about whether they can win the title this season, Ancelotti is confident his side will win another trophy.
‘Yes, otherwise I wouldn’t be here. I consider it a vacation. We are here to fight for every trophy until the end. To win, we have to try. If it doesn’t work, we have to think about next season.’
123over Asked if the criticism bothers him, the Italian replied: ‘We cannot think about the criticism every three days with the game. After Valencia, we evaluated and prepared well for the game. We have a very important 90 minutes. The result is not yet decided because there are still 90 minutes at the Bernabeu.’ ( 123over )
