Henry officially signed a two-year, $30 million contract on Monday. The deal will keep him in Baltimore until he’s 33, making him the highest-paid running back over the age of 30 at an average annual salary of $15 million.
‘I want to be great,’ Henry said. ‘No matter how good or bad it is, I always focus on trying to improve myself every day in any way that I can. I think to be great, you have to focus on consistency. You have to work harder than anyone else, and that’s the approach I take.’
‘I love football. I love playing football. I know a lot of people look at age, but I don’t really try to focus on that. I just focus on how Derrick Henry can get better. How Derrick Henry can help the Ravens get to where they need to go.’
Henry finished his first season in Baltimore with 1,921 rushing yards, second-most in the NFL behind only the Philadelphia Eagles’ Saquon Barkley. But Henry also scored a league-high 16 touchdowns and helped the Ravens post the third-most total yards in NFL history (7,224).
“I’m so grateful to this organization,” Henry said. “Like last year, coming into the offseason that I had, you know, I wasn’t very happy, and I wanted to prove myself and take my chance, and they gave me a chance. I’m so grateful that they valued me, they gave me a chance, and I want to show them how much it means to me and how much this organization means to me by the way I work and what I do on the field.
