The New York Jets have confirmed the release of Tim Boyd after the 29-year-old quarterback started the past two games and Gang Green signed Brett Rypien from the Seattle Seahawks practice squad as his replacement, but head coach Robert Saleh has not yet confirmed who will start Sunday’s game against the Houston Texans, NFL Network reported on Tuesday. Boyd has started in place of Zach Wilson in the last two games, completing 41-of-63 passes for 327 yards, one touchdown, three interceptions and eight sacks. The 29-year-old quarterback’s lack of accuracy led to a mistake-prone offense that led to his release, and the Jets agreed to bring Rypien in from the Seahawks’ practice squad as his replacement. 

However, Saleh revealed he has yet to make a decision on his starting quarterback for Sunday’s game against the Texans, with Wilson likely to take another chance or Trevor Siemian to lead the team, although the latter has struggled, having given up three sacks and a fumble on three drives. 

“A young guy who wants the ball, he wants to start and believes he’s the best quarterback in the room and the best quarterback on this team and the guy who gives us the best chance to win, and I’ll tell you guys the same thing I told him, I appreciate it. I appreciate that he wants to play. I’m just not there yet,” Saleh said of Wilson, the 24-year-old quarterback.
