Aston Villa beat Club Brugge 3-1 in the first leg of their Champions League last 16 tie to keep their chances of reaching the last eight bright, although there is still a second leg at Villa Park on Wednesday, March 12.
“It’s a great feeling. It’s a big game and a big chance for us to go through to the next round,” said Rogers, who was named man of the match.
“The first away game is tough. We know they are a good team because we have faced them before. Next week we will walk onto the pitch again.”
Aston Villa had previously visited the Jan Breydel Stadium in their fourth league phase, with Club Brugge winning 1-0 from a penalty kick by Hans Vanaken, which followed a bizarre foul by Tyrone Mings, who had used his hand to pick up the ball from a short set-piece by team-mate Emiliano Martinez.
