( 123over ) Former Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney has hailed Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton’s performance in Saturday’s 3-0 FA Cup semi-final win over Aston Villa. 123over
The Eagles scored three goals in the game through Eredivisie Eze in the 31st minute, plus Ismaïla Sarr’s two goals in the 58th and 90+4th minutes to send the team into the final. Although the attacking players received many compliments, Rooney did not miss the brilliance of Wharton.
“The attacking players get a lot of credit but Adam Wharton was outstanding,” Rooney told BBC One. “His determination and his winning the ball, I thought he was the best player on the pitch.”
Speaking about Palace’s excellent performance, Rooney said: “I thought Palace were clearly the better team but the atmosphere was great. They deserve to be in the final. Hopefully they can go for it.”
“The FA Cup final is a massive thing. It’s massive for everyone, a great occasion and the Palace fans had a great day and they did it again.”
