123over Watt reveals he wasn’t at his best physically throughout last season

Pittsburgh Steelers outside linebacker T.J. Watt admitted he had a rough 2022 season after failing to get back to full fitness and posting a disappointing 5.5 sacks after averaging 22.5 the previous season, NFL Network reported on Tuesday.  ( 123over ) 

‘Obviously, the pecs last year were tough,’ Watt said. ‘Just having a great off-season, feeling really good going into the season. I felt like I played really well in Cincinnati, but that was like one of those things where, even in the game I got hurt, the clock was running, time was up, fourth quarter, 20 seconds left, I got hit in the face.’

‘But I got Joe Burrow in a lock and it was like my arm got caught behind my back and that tore my pectoral muscle. The number of times I’ve thought about that play in my mind, like if I had just left my arm low and not had a hand in my face, or if I had just stood there and wrapped it around him and put him down, like it was game over, my pectoral muscle would have been fine. I’ve driven myself crazy thinking about that.’

Watt admitted he struggled to stay healthy throughout the offseason, which led to just 5.5 sacks.

‘As soon as I came back, I was never 100 percent,’ Watt said. ‘But it was like little things. I had a rib injury, I had a thumb injury. It was just one year for me where I wasn’t 100 percent healthy, so it was a little disappointing.’

But Watt said he feels good after working so hard this offseason. ‘Yeah, I feel good right now. I feel really good and it’s been a great offseason for me. If you play in this league long enough, you have those kinds of years. You have those kinds of weeks. And it’s just a matter of how you react to it. That’s what I’m looking forward to.’
