Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti has insisted the positioning of Vinicius Junior and Kylian Mbappe is not a concern over Los Blancos’ defensive form, according to Diario AS on Friday.

After reports claimed that Mbappe was unhappy with his number 9 role at Real Madrid, with the French forward preferring to play on the left flank with Vinicius Junior, Ancelotti was unwilling to change the Brazilian forward’s impressive playing position, unlike the former PSG player who is currently under criticism after scoring just one goal in his last 22 attempts.

‘Because I don’t want to take him (Vinicius) out of a position where he makes the difference and Mbappe can play as a striker, nothing else. Our problem is not offensive, it’s defensive,’ Ancelotti said.

Ancelotti previously admitted that Mbappe’s form has been lackluster in the last two games, as have other players at Los Blancos, but the Italian coach is still confident that things will improve for the 25-year-old forward.

‘He’s training well, he’s going through a difficult time, like all of us. You have to think of it as an opportunity. If you’re smart, you can turn things around quickly, with better focus and attitude. This is the way to face problems. The problems he’s facing are everyone’s problems.’

‘He hasn’t been able to show his best, but you have to look at this moment as an opportunity to be better in the future. I’m confident he can turn things around. I’m confident.’
