Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti has decided to promote 17-year-old right-back Jesus Fortea to the first team for the rest of the season following the long-term injury loss of Daniel Carvajal, Marca reported on Thursday.

Carvajal suffered a serious ACL tear to his right knee in the 2-0 win over Villarreal and is expected to be out for at least 10 months, with Lucas Vazquez stepping up to be the first-choice right-back, but Ancelotti still has Eder Militao as another option if needed. 

However, Ancelotti also called Fortea up from the Under-19s to train with the first-team, before the Italian promoted the 17-year-old right-back to Los Blancos’ squad until the end of the 2024-25 season.

Ancelotti’s decision could mean Real Madrid won’t be investing in a new right-back in January, despite links to Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold, Tottenham Hotspur’s Pedro Antonio Porro and Juventus’ Andrea Cambiaso.  ( vox888 )
