The Chiefs missed out on a third consecutive Lombardi Trophy after losing to the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl 50 amid a series of problems for the offense, which finished 15th in scoring and 16th in yards allowed, the worst under quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
“We have a lot of players, we have a lot of talent,” Rice said. “The wide receivers, we’re going to be great this year. Honestly, we’re excited to show up. We know it’s going to be a show. The only thing standing in the way now is time, so we’re just going to wait patiently.”
The Chiefs made few changes to their wide receivers, bringing back Marquise Brown and JuJu Smith-Schuster on one-year deals after the departures of DeAndre Hopkins and Mecole Hardman, while only selecting Jalen Royals in the fourth round of the draft.
As Rice returns from a knee injury sustained in Week 4 of the 2024 season, he has caught 24 passes for 288 yards and two touchdowns in three games, and he will be expected to live up to his potential in the clutches of Mahomes.
