Chuck Barrett, the Miami Dolphins’ new pass rusher, insists he’s ready to prove the Tampa Bay Buccaneers made a mistake in releasing him. From the team before ending up with the Dolphins on a one-year contract worth $9 million. According to a report from NFL Network ( lisbon365  )

Barrett spent five seasons in Tampa Bay, amassing 45 sacks and helping the Pirates win a Super Bowl before being released by the team at the end of the 2023 season. Now the 31-year-old ‘pass rusher’ is ready to prove he still has plenty of gas in the tank and make the Buccaneers regret their decision to let him go. 

‘I still have more to prove,’ Barrett said. ‘Especially being cut from another team. That puts all the fuel on the fire there. The Dolphins must be happy they signed me. Tampa must be very angry they let me go because of this year I planned. And the success we will achieve as a team will be amazing.’

The Dolphins lost defensive tackle Christian Watkins, who signed with the Las Vegas Raiders, while Jaylan Phillip s and Bradley Chubb are returning from injured seasons. So the Dolphins are hoping Barrett can return to the form he’s had over the past few years. 

Barrett was named to the Pro Bowl in 2019 and 2021 with 19.5 and 10.0 sacks, but the 31-year-old pass rusher’s production has dipped over the past two years with just 3 and 4.5. Zack only

‘It’s amazing,’ Barrett said of his 19.5 sack campaign. ‘Everything came together. Each star is aligned. And it’s nice to be on a team where the coach lets me go out and play football and knows the game plan. I don’t have to think too much. I can just read and respond. Therefore, to gain the trust of my coach. Trusting my teammates to go out there and get the job done. Make it an amazing year. And I’m excited to try and get back to that or get close to that.’

‘Each year I clearly never reach my goal. Because my goal is 23 sacks,’ Barrett said. ‘I want to break the record every year. I want to be the best player, one of the best pass rushers, and I think the sack record reinforces that fact. Or make you part of the argument’

‘That’s what I try to do every year. But I still have to be happy that I haven’t reached that goal yet and still have 10 sacks, 12 sacks or whatever number I have. But yeah, I always aim really high.’
