Cleveland Browns general manager Andrew Barry has revealed the organization plans to address quarterback Deshaun Watson’s future after the player recovers from his injury, NFL Network reports.

The Browns traded Watson from the Houston Texans in the 2022 offseason and agreed to a five-year, $230 million deal with full guarantees, but the 29-year-old quarterback has played in just 19 games, going 9-10, and has been sidelined twice with injuries after a right shoulder injury in 2023, playing in just six games and ending the season in just seven games after tearing his Achilles tendon.

The Browns are currently 2-7 heading into their Week 10 bye week, having agreed to trade wide receiver Amari Cooper and defensive end Cedarius Smith for draft picks from the Buffalo Bills and Detroit Lions, respectively, and Barry said the Watson situation will be addressed when the time is right.

“Really, we’re focused on DeShaun. I would say for any player who gets a season-ending injury or a serious injury, the most important thing is to recover and make sure he’s fully recovered from his Achilles injury,” Barry said. “The other stuff, we’ll take care of later.”

The Browns went all-out to acquire their star quarterback, but it turned out to be a huge disappointment and could go down as one of the worst trades in NFL history, as did a massive deal for the 29-year-old.

“I haven’t given it much thought,” Barry said when asked if Watson could be traded in 2022. “I think I might. I remember someone asking me about (Joshua) Dobbs last year. I don’t really care about it that much at this point in the year. We’re interested in finishing out 2024, playing at a higher level, and then we’ll look at the long-term or the big picture later.”

While Watson hasn’t performed like a player worthy of being a starting quarterback in the NFL, Barry isn’t putting all the blame on the 29-year-old. ( superwin636 )
