berlin1688 Golden Tate (left) thinks the New York Giants should let Daniel Jones (right) learn and grow without rushing the rookie quarterback.

Golden Tate, a 30-year-old wide receiver for the New York Giants who is entering his 10th year in the NFL, has expressed his opinion on the Giants’ quarterback position, saying there is no need to rush rookie Daniel Jones into starting right away because they still have the experience and skill of Eli Manning, NFL Network reported Friday.  berlin1688

Tate, a veteran wide receiver, signed a four-year, $37.5 million deal in March, just one day after the Giants traded 26-year-old wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr. to the Cleveland Browns.

Giants head coach Pat Shurmur told the New York Times before training camp that veteran quarterback Eli Manning will remain the Giants’ starting lineup next season, but rookie wide receiver Daniel Jones is also likely to be available in Week 1. He added, “The player who gives our team the best chance to win games, we’ve seen Eli Manning do that for a long time, so we’ll see what happens as we go along.”

While wide receiver Golden Tate doesn’t see the Giants needing to rush Jones out right away, two-time Super Bowl champion Elias is still playing.

“What I see, Eli Manning still has a lot to show,” Tate said. “He still has a great ability with his throws.”

“I’m impressed. I think we have a good problem. We have a Hall of Fame quarterback in my mind and we’ve also drafted a young guy, so we don’t have to rush Daniel out there and save the day. We just want Daniel to continue, learn as much as he can in a great environment and take it day by day. We don’t need him to come in tomorrow and win the game. We just need him to continue. I think that’s good news in my mind.”

The Giants will open training camp on July 22 for rookies, while veterans are scheduled to enter camp on July 24.

Since 2011, it’s been rare for a team to draft a quarterback in the top 10 and not try to start them as early as possible. Only three of the 17 quarterbacks drafted in the top 10 didn’t start at least 10 games during their rookie season: Jake Locker (Tennessee Titans), Jared Goff (LA Rams) and Patrick Mahomes (Kansas City Chiefs). But those three aren’t sitting behind a future Hall of Famer.

“The two years I started my career in Seattle, I was an outside guy. The first two years in Detroit, with two wide receivers, I was on the outside and with three wide receivers, I was one of them. So I can play anywhere and that’s what makes me unique. I think I’m effective at every position and Coach Shurmur will do a good job of positioning me and Saquon (Barkley), Sterling (Shepard), Cody (Latimer), Corey (Coleman) and (Evan) Engram. I think we can switch up anywhere and just blend in and make plays and I think that’s what’s going to make us one this year,” Tate said. ( berlin1688 )
