Running back Melvin Gordon, 26, has threatened the Los Angeles Chargers with a video clip, saying he would follow in the footsteps of former Pittsburgh Steelers running back Le’Veon Bell if he doesn’t get a long-term contract with the organization, Yahoo Sports reported Friday.  bgames666

Gordon’s agent, Demaryius Bilbo, previously told NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport that the 26-year-old running back was serious about holding out during training camp and was open to being traded away from the Chargers if he didn’t agree on a long-term deal. He recently posted a video of himself with his father threatening to follow Bell’s footsteps.

Bell sat out the entire 2018 season after being franchise-tagged by the Steelers for a second straight year, and the star running back refused to sign the deal until he became a free agent and signed a four-year, $52.5 million deal with the New York Jets in March. 

The clip shows Gordon talking to his father about Bell sitting out the 2018 season in a bid to pressure the Chargers into a long-term deal if they don’t want a repeat of what happened to the former Steelers running back.

When Gordon’s dad asked if Bell would play the entire season, the Chargers running back immediately replied, “Yeah, I would too.”

If Gordon follows through on his threat, he and Bell could set a new standard for running backs, a position that has become less and less important in recent years with only a select few teams willing to pay top-tier rushers. But if Gordon’s approach proves successful enough for the Chargers to offer him a long-term contract, it could set a precedent for others to follow in the future. ( bgames666 )
