The Chiefs fired Sutton, 67, who had been on the job since 2013, as defensive coordinator following Tuesday’s loss to the New England Patriots after failing to defend Patriots quarterback Tom Brady in Sunday’s AFC Championship game.
Although the Chiefs’ offense was the No. 1 team in the NFL last season, the Chiefs’ defense was dismal, finishing 31st out of 32 teams in the league. The Chiefs lost five games in which they scored 28 points, including games in which they scored 51 and 40 points.
The front-runner to be the new defensive coordinator is Spagnolo, 59, who worked with Chiefs head coach Andy Reid, 60, at the Philadelphia Eagles, where Spagnolo was the defensive backs and linebackers coach while Reid was the head coach, and the two share the same agent. ( bgames666 )
