The Buffalo Bills have agreed to a one-year contract with former Kansas City Chiefs safety Mike Edwards to replace Jordan Poyer, who was released from the team before the 32-year-old safety signed with Miami. Dolphins, according to a report from ESPN.

The Bills released 32-year-old safety Poyer and 29-year-old cornerback Tredavious White this offseason. Before the Buffaloes signed Edwards, a former Chiefs and Tampa Bay Buccaneers safety. 

Edwards, who turns 28 in May, joins the likes of Taylor Rapp, DeMar Hamlin and Kendall Williamson after Ed. Words started five games during the regular season and four games during the post season with the Chiefs in the 2023 season.

‘The culture of the Bills, the coaching staff, they’ve helped me a lot,’ Edwards said on why he signed with the Chiefs. ‘Friendly safety. My position and the two guys (Poyer and Micah Hyde) they’ve had have been phenomenal over the last seven years. I feel like I can fill that position. And try to get better and try to improve every week.’

The Bills had to make changes to their safety room after releasing Poyer, while Hyde remains on the free agent market and is considering retirement this offseason. Edwards could replace Hyde, but the Buffaloes The position is also filled by the 2024 draft, where they have 11 picks.

‘Hyde takes on that role, the crafty, ideal safety. I used to study his films often. So I feel like I can look like that. That’s something he has,’ Edwards said. ‘Just being in the backfield and trying to read the quarterback. I can go inside and blitz, play man-to-man, get up in the box. So I can do everything.’
