The game started with no clear chance to score a goal in the first half. In the 21st minute, Villa had a chance when Andres Garcia crossed for Yuri Tielemans to head the ball, but it didn’t go into the frame. Then 4 minutes later, Rogers scored but was ruled offside.
Palace took the lead 1-0 in the 29th minute when Adam Wharton chipped in to Eberechi Eze, who headed the ball to Ismaïla Sarr who finished it off.
Villa had another goal in the first half when Ollie Watkins crossed from the line for Morgan Rogers to shoot past Dean Henderson, but a VAR check ruled Watkins offside, saving Palace once again.
Back in the second half, Villa replaced the injured Emiliano Martinez with Robin Olsen in goal.
7 minutes into the second half, Aston Villa equalized 1-1. Robin Olsen crossed a long ball up front for Ollie Watkins to head to Morgan Rogers, who headed into the penalty area before spinning and shooting past his marker and shooting into the net with his left foot.
However, Palace took another 2-1 lead six minutes later. Ebereshi Ese controlled the ball in the penalty area but it bounced off the foot of Jean-Philippe Mateta, who ran to receive it and fired a left-footed shot past Olsen into the net.
Villa tried to equalise but it was Palace who pulled ahead 3-1 in the 71st minute when Daniel Munoz had a chance to cross from the right into the penalty area to Ismaïla Sarr who flicked a right-footed shot into the net from 12 yards.
In stoppage time, Palace secured the win through Tariq Mitchell, who crossed for Eddie Nketiah to make it 4-1. It was Nketiah’s first league goal since moving from Arsenal.
The game ended with Crystal Palace winning beautifully at home, beating Aston Villa 4-1.
