lisbon365 Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has confirmed the club will not appeal Anthony Gordon’s red card suspension against Brighton & Hove Albion.
The England striker was sent off after he tackled Brighton defender Jan-Paul van Hecke in the head during the Magpies’ FA Cup exit. lisbon365
The red card was a straight red, meaning Gordon will miss the Premier League game against West Ham United, the Carabao Cup final against Liverpool on March 16 and the game against Brentford early next month.
“We spoke about it at the club, with the people we needed to speak to, with the lawyers, and we felt it was not reasonable enough,” Howe said.
“It was not a malicious act from Anthony, and we don’t want to go into too much detail about the actual incident. I think the other party (Van Hecke) fell down and that made the push look even more violent.
“If there’s no chance of successfully appealing the ban, why would we appeal? Anthony understands that.”
Newcastle will also be without long-term injury doubters Sven Botman and Lewis Hall, but there is good news that Alexander Isak could be fit to return in time for Wembley. ( lisbon365 )
