Los Angeles Chargers general manager Tom Telesco revealed on Thursday that he is evaluating all options for Hunter Henry’s future, with the possibility of closing the ‘franchise tag’ on him. The 26-year-old winger is ahead of the March 9 deadline, according to NFL Network. ( marinabays  )

Henry played the 2020 season under the franchise tag, catching 60 passes for 613 yards and 4 touchdowns. He is set to hit the free agent market on March 17, but the Chargers S are evaluating all options for the 26-year-old winger’s future, including releasing him as a free agent, entering into a long-term deal. Or even tagging for the second year in a row that must be done before the March 9 deadline. 

‘We’re keeping all our options open right now,’ Telesco said when asked if the Chargers would close the deal on Henry. ‘This year with the salary cap being It’s harder than in other years, but I think you have to keep all the doors open now.’

Henry, who entered the league as a second-round draft pick in the 2016 class, has battled injuries throughout his career. But he is still regarded as one of the league’s best inside wingers, while Telesco confirmed that the 26-year-old winger is also the type of player the Lightning need.

‘He’s in the category of things we’re doing right,’ Telesco said of Henry. ‘You draft a player. He developed and became a really high level winger for us. and is an important part of this football team. Our philosophy is to draft, develop and sign new players. Now can you do this with every player? You can’t do it. Not within the salary cap And it’s not in the era we’re in now that it’s decreased.’

‘That doesn’t change the way we feel about him. We know what he means to the football team. We’ll see where our options are. He is an important part of the football team. I like the way he plays the game. He fits what we do on and off the field. He is a high level player,’ Telesco said.
