The 23-year-old goalkeeper has been called up to the senior France squad for the first time by Didier Deschamps after Chevalier impressed for Lille.

However, Chevalier is aware that there is still a gap between himself and France’s number one Mike Maignan, particularly due to the size of his club.

“I play for Lille, all the players play for big clubs in Europe. Lille is a big club in Europe, but there is another level above that.

“The No.1 position is determined by playing for big clubs. You have to be clear about that.”

Chevalier is still contracted to Lille until mid-2027 and has been linked with Barcelona in the past, but his good performances will likely make him available to many teams in the summer of 2025.   ( superwin636 )
