Melvin Gordon, 26, is ready to disrupt the Los Angeles Chargers, skipping training camp and waiting to be traded if he doesn’t get a new contract, NFL Network reported Thursday.  cosmo365

According to NFL Network reporter Tom Pelissero, Gordon is ready to pressure the Chargers by telling them he will request a trade and will not report for training camp, which begins July 24, unless offered a new contract. However, if the 26-year-old doesn’t report as threatened, he could be fined up to $40,000.

Demaryius Bilbo, one of Gordon’s agents, previously told NFL Network reporter Ian Rapoport that the 26-year-old running back is serious about the ‘hold out’ move. 

‘He’s very serious,’ Bilbo revealed. ‘He worked his butt off and exercised his fifth-year option as a result of where he was drafted. It’s the way it is, but if we had a solid offer we wouldn’t be here. But he felt disrespected. He’s very serious. ‘

The former 2015 first-round draft pick is entering the fifth and final year of his rookie contract, which is set to earn $5.6 million. He wants the stability that comes with guaranteed money on a long-term deal, even though Gordon’s salary was the 11th-highest among running backs in 2019. 

‘We had offers, negotiations were closed, but we were offered an unfair deal based on what Melvin did, where he was drafted and how he showed by making two of the last four Pro Bowls. It’s disrespectful,’ Bilbo said. ( cosmo365 )
