LA Chargers general manager Joe Hortice said he and head coach Jim Harbaugh have flexibility in the draft this week after filling a void in the free-agent market by signing 21 players, NFL Network reports. cosmo365
‘You let the board come to you,’ Hortiz said. ‘You don’t feel pressured to say, ‘Oh, we have to deal with this player, we have to be in this position.’
“I don’t feel like that because of the way we spread ourselves out in free agency and added players to the roster and really fleshed out the roster. I think that’s the goal. You want to put yourself in a position to go to draft day and say, ‘We really let the board come to us. We can pick the best players. ‘
The Chargers filled some holes in free agency by adding guard Mekhi Becton, wide receiver Mike Williams, running back Najee Harris, tight end Tyler Conklin, cornerback Dontae Jackson and others, but the Lightning still need more offensive players, including a more mobile wide receiver, deep wide receivers and defensive line. But Hortice doesn’t necessarily have to force that choice on draft night.
‘You say, ‘You took a player that maybe you don’t need,’ two weeks later, maybe you do,’ Hortice said. ‘You just take the best player you have, and he’s going to be here four or five years, maybe longer, and he’s going to help you win games. ( cosmo365 )
