Spain coach Luis de la Fuente has insisted that Barcelona midfielder Marc Casado’s first call-up to the Spain squad was based on his performances and abilities, regardless of the player’s origins, Marca reported on Friday.

Casado impressed for Hansi Flick’s Barcelona before earning his first call-up to the Spain squad, becoming the sixth Barca player to make the list alongside Lamine Yamal, Ferran Torres, Daniel Olmo, Pedro Gonzalez Lopez Pedri and Pau Gubarsi. 

‘I confirm that I do not look at the origins of the players, we only focus on good people. Barça and other clubs in Spain are doing a very good job and it is important to give opportunities to talented, young and talented people.’
