Bayern Munich sporting director Max Eberl tried to bring Julian Nagelsmann back to the club as head coach but was unsuccessful, with the Bavarian giants bringing in Vincent Kompany to take over as their current manager, Sky Germany reported on Tuesday. ( vox888 )

Nagelsmann joined Bayern Munich from RB Leipzig in the summer of 2021 before being sacked on 23 March 2023, with then-Bayern executives Oliver Kahn and Hasan Salihamidzic bringing in Thomas Tuchel as their new manager, while Nagelsmann accepted the DFB job in September of the same year after parting ways with Hansi Flick. 

Nagelsmann enjoyed some success as Germany coach, although the Germans ended their run in the quarter-finals of Euro 2024 in Germany. 

When Bayern Munich parted ways with Tuchel, the current management team led by Eberl tried to bring Nagelsmann back to work, but the 37-year-old coach refused, before the Bavarians brought in Kompany as their new manager this past summer.

‘Julian Nagelsmann is still a great coach for me. We don’t think we’re done with Bayern,’ Eberl said. ‘In the past, everyone would come when Bayern called. Now the market has changed.’

‘Many coaches have also noticed that there have been a lot of coaching changes at Bayern in recent years. We have to work to make it attractive again. We will give Vincent Kompany time to succeed together.’
