ESPN’s Shams Cherania reports that Joel Embiid and the Philadelphia 76ers were at odds over how to treat his left knee injury, with the 30-year-old center ultimately deciding to undergo surgery. 

Embiid has struggled with a left knee problem all season and underwent meniscus surgery early in 2024 before being pushed back for the playoffs this past season. But the 30-year-old has struggled with mobility, despite averaging 30 points and 10.8 rebounds per game on 44.4 percent shooting. Embiid then went on to pursue a gold medal at the Paris Olympics.
