Since the start of the 2021-22 season, referees will only call fouls on players who are in the middle of scoring if they are hit in the hand or arm with full force. Fake fouls or unnatural movements will not be considered again.   ( gameintr88 ) 

That has led to players who used to make a living off of fouls like James Harden , Trae Young , Devin Booker and Luka Doncic seeing their free throw attempts drop by more than half, to the point where some are complaining.

But for Draymond, the intensity of the league is back, without the guile.  

” Would I be happy to watch a basketball game without those kinds of stupid calls ? – The ones who steal games and make money from calling fouls and making free throws – I’ve had a lot of fun watching basketball this year, ” he told ESPN .

“ I stopped watching NBA games a while ago because it was full of bounces and dives, but those dirty guys got free throws. ”

“ Like James Harden, one of the best in that regard , whether it’s diving to draw fouls , pulling the trigger to fake contact or looking for extra balls from 3- point shots, he’s one of the best … and when you’re up against someone like that, the moment you make contact is like a hook, you’re going to get fouled immediately, which makes it impossible to guard him. ”  

“ You start to see a lot of guys becoming experts, but they’re definitely learning from James because he was the master of foul-shooting before anyone else did .” 

Harden has averaged 8.7 free throws per game for his career , but this season he ‘s only hit 5.7 per game
