Gray played for Midwestern State University against Texas A&M-Kingsville, but during the tackle, he suffered a neck injury and was rushed to a hospital in Houston, but ultimately succumbed to the injury. ( gameintr88 )
The university, whose home university is affiliated with, issued a statement saying, “Today we are saddened by the loss of one of our students. Robert touched many hearts during his time at the university, but what many will remember him most for is his smile.”
“He was an inspiration to those around him both on and off the field. He will be remembered and loved by his friends, classmates and teammates. This tragedy has left our community feeling deeply saddened.”
