LA Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh says quarterback Justin Herbert, 26, showed mental toughness and leadership by keeping everyone calm while they were stuck in a hotel elevator in Dallas for about two hours, NFL Network reports.  ( vox888 )

Herbert was among 11 or 12 players rescued from a malfunctioning hotel elevator in Dallas on Friday night, which Harbaugh saw as another test of the players’ mental health. 

“When you’re in a situation like that, you test your mentality,” Harbaugh said. “I’m proud of each of the guys and the two women in the elevator. That’s a win. You feel good about yourself. You’re challenged. It’s a mental test, and you can either bring it down or you can bring it in.”

Harbaugh added that he was not in the stuck elevator but was there to watch them get out after being trapped for about two hours.

‘It was so hot,’ Harbaugh said. ‘Everyone came out of the elevators sweating and some of them had their shirts off. Justin Herbert had a little wet hair, but his shirt was dry. That was another thing that surprised me.’

Jerry Fouts, wife of Hall of Fame quarterback Dan Fouts and a Chargers analyst, was also among those helped. They were all impressed by Herbert’s calm demeanor in difficult situations.

“Justin Herbert is a leader,” Harbaugh added. “He’s a rock. He keeps everybody calm and everybody stays calm.”
