Detroit Lions general manager Brad Holmes is not shy about talking about the team’s goal for the 2024 season: winning the Super Bowl, NFL Network reports. ( pgzen )

The Lions, under Holmes as GM and head coach Dan Campbell, have made a remarkable comeback, winning their first division title in three decades in the 2023 season. 

Asked about his expectations for the 2024 season, Holmes answered without hesitation: “For this season? It’s winning the Super Bowl.” 

Winning the Super Bowl is the goal for every team, but for most clubs, the reality is they have little chance of winning the Lombardi Trophy in February. 

The Lions are seen as genuine Super Bowl contenders in the 2024 season, and many are picking them to win another division title and remain one of the top teams in the NFC, but they have yet to reach a Super Bowl, along with the Cleveland Browns, Jacksonville Jaguars and Houston Texans. 

They nearly did it last season, building a 17-point third-quarter lead before making mistakes in the final quarter and losing 31-34 to the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Championship Game. 

“We’ve kept our approach and our process very consistent in terms of how we build it, the opportunities we give players, and that’s what gives us confidence,” Holmes said. “We’ve said from day one that we want to get better every year, and we’ve done that, and we plan to continue to do that.”
