New Orleans Saints rookie quarterback Tyler Shuck said he is focusing on himself and trying to help the team in any way he can before entering his first professional season, NFL Network reports.

The Saints selected Chuck with the 44th overall pick. The Louisville alum will now compete with Spencer Rattler (Round 4, 2024) and Jake Hener (Round 3, 2023) following the retirement of Derek Carr.
“I think for me, it was kind of like going through the same process in rookie minicamp, trying to learn the playbook and get to know my teammates as much as I can and do everything I can to keep getting better,” Chuck said. “(Coach) Kellen (Moore) told me this morning (about Carr’s retirement), and that was it, and we went out to practice and had a lot of fun.”
Chuck transferred to Louisville in 2024. He threw for 3,195 yards, 23 touchdowns, career-bests in both categories, and only had six interceptions before being selected by the Saints in the second round of last year’s draft.
“That’s all you can ask for at any position,” Chuck said. “And I’m going to treat it the same way, no matter who’s on the roster. I’m going to continue to grow and develop and do my best to enhance the quarterback room and the team. For me, I’m going to come in whether he’s here or not and continue to grow.”
‘I think he’s been a top player for a long time. I think it’s a great opportunity to learn from him. It’s also a great opportunity to develop myself and be on this team and with the great players we’ve got on the team. I’m just excited about what the future holds and the rest of our off-season.’
