Cleveland Browns head coach Hugh Jackson has confirmed that veteran quarterback Tyrod Taylor will be the starter next season, while 2018 draft pick Baker Mayfield will need time to learn to become the next big man. kindee1688
“Rod is going to be the starting quarterback ahead of Baker, our first draft pick,” Jackson told the Cleveland Plain Dealer on Thursday. “He’s our quarterback of the future. I’m talking about what’s happening now. I don’t think that’s going to change.”
The Browns drafted Baker out of Oklahoma with the first pick in this year’s draft, but Jackson still wants the rookie quarterback to learn the system and play professionally in the NFL before he can become a future starter, so the 23-year-old will start next season as the Browns’ No. 2 or No. 3.
The Browns traded Taylor from the Buffalo Bills this offseason in exchange for a third-round draft pick in the 2018 draft, with the seven-year veteran quarterback set to be the team’s No. 1 tight end while Mayfield will compete with Drew Stanton, a 34-year-old quarterback who transferred from the Arizona Cardinals, for the No. 2 spot.
