San Francisco 49ers quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo, or “Jimmy G,” said teammate George Kittle has many similarities to former teammate and former New England Patriots wide receiver Rob Gronkowski, with the 25-year-old having the potential to become “Gronk” 2.0, NFL Network reported Saturday.  kindee1688

Kittle, a 25-year-old wide receiver for the Nairs, is 6-foot-4, 250 pounds and is similar in build to Gronkowski, who is 6-foot-6, 268 pounds. “Jimmy G” has had the opportunity to play with both wide receivers with the Patriots and Gronkowski and Kittle with the Nairs, and the 27-year-old quarterback sees Kittle as having the potential to develop to a level similar to his former New England wide receiver.

‘There are a lot of similarities, both on the field and a little bit off the field. George is a formidable player, the energy he brings every day, the way he goes about his job, he always enjoys it while he’s doing it, which is very similar to Gronk, they’ll enjoy what they do,’ Garappolo said of the big wingers. 

‘It makes everything more fun. It’s fun to be around and it’s contagious. Having people like that makes our team closer and better.’

Kittle quickly became involved with the team over the course of his first two seasons without injury problems. He played in 15 games, starting seven, during his rookie season in 2017, missing just one game with a leg injury, and started all 16 games in 2018, while Gronkowski played in 32 games, starting 27, over his first two career seasons.

Gronkowski started his professional career at age 21 after playing for the University of Arizona two years earlier, while Kittle entered the league at age 24 after playing for four seasons at the University of Iowa.

Kittle caught 131 of 199 passes for 1,892 yards and seven touchdowns in just nine games with Garappolo, the rest of the time switching between quarterbacks Brian Hoyer, C.J. Beathard and Nick Mullens. In that same span, Gronk caught 132 of 183 passes for 1,873 yards and 27 touchdowns, but he only played with one quarterback, Tom Brady.
