Eddie Goldman, a 28-year-old defensive lineman, has informed the Atlanta Falcons of his intention to retire from the NFL just 13 days after signing, NFL Network reported Tuesday.  ( Kodma168 )

The 28-year-old nose tackle entered the league as a second-round draft pick in the 2015 class and played the first seven years of his career with the Chicago Bears (with the exception of the COVID-19-related shutdown of the 2020 season) before being released by the Bears this offseason. He signed a one-year deal with the Falcons on July 6 but confirmed his retirement 13 days later.

Goldman appeared in 81 games (started 73) for his career, recording 13 sacks, 175 tackles, 10 forced fumbles and two forced fumbles. 

It’s always a surprise when a player announces he’s retiring from the game before the age of 30, and that’s what happened to former Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck, who decided to retire at just 29, while former Tampa Bay Buccaneers Super Bowl champion offensive lineman Ali Marpet retired at 28 and Colts safety Khari Willis retired at 26.

However, Goldman has not publicly disclosed the reasons for his decision to retire from the NFL.
