Forest, who are sixth in the table, are the surprise of the season and could secure a Champions League place if they do not lose to Brentford in their remaining game at the City Ground on Thursday.

The club has won the European Cup twice in its history, but last played in the competition in the 1980-81 season.

Forest were knocked out of the FA Cup semi-finals by Manchester City on Sunday, but winning their final five league games will see them return to Europe’s top competition.
