The former first-round draft pick in the 2022 draft had struggled to establish himself as a right tackle for the Giants over the course of his first two seasons, leading the Giants to decline his fifth-year option. DeBoll decided to move Evans to guard in the hopes of revitalizing his career, similar to what happened to Megi Becton, who moved to guard for the New York Knicks last season.
“He’s learning a lot of things on the inside, you know training camp is going to be a big time of year for him, like every offensive lineman,” DeBoll said of Evans.
Neil spent the offseason practicing at both guard positions, but with Jon Runyan playing left guard, Neil had to compete with Greg Van Roten for the right guard spot.
“He’s been doing great so far. It’s exciting to see what happens when we put the shoulder pads on. But he’s embraced it. We’ve embraced it. Everything’s going well,” Giants offensive line coach Carmen Brisillo said. “We’ve had a lot of guys throughout the NFL transition from tackle to guard, so we’ll just have to see how it goes.” ( kuiper999 )
