Sam LaPorta, 24, made waves with the Detroit Lions during his rookie season, but his stats have declined in his second season with the team. But he’s not worried about that, according to NFL Network. kuiper999

LaPorta, a former second-round draft pick in the 2023 class, caught 86 passes for 889 yards and 10 touchdowns in his rookie season before his numbers dropped in his sophomore season, when he caught 60 passes for 726 yards and seven touchdowns. But the 24-year-old wide receiver isn’t worried about that and is proud of his progress as a blocker. 

“I was very pleased with my run game and my blocking in Year 2,” LaPorta said. “I feel like I’m still a very good passer, had a lot of weapons last year, so I heard comments this offseason like, ‘Why didn’t you get the ball as much? ‘ It’s like, ‘We scored more points than any team in the NFL in the last five years. Everybody deserves the ball, and I agree I still deserve the ball, but I was very pleased with the way I blocked the run game last year. ‘

‘Looking ahead to this year, I think I’ve got to polish things on offense, defense, start looking at the game from a quarterback perspective, something Jared (Goff) definitely needs to know, and maybe not only what I’m doing on the field, but what other guys are doing as well, just looking at the big picture.’

“My first off-season, I had ankle surgery, so I was trying to get myself ready for my second season,” LaPorta added. “This season, I came back healthy, which was great. I took some time off, let my body relax for the first time since training camp my senior year at Iowa, so it was a long time, but it took me two or three weeks to relax, then I got back on the bike.” ( kuiper999 )
