Barcelona president Joan Laporta insists he wants Xavi to stay on as Azul’s coach and plans to speak with the 44-year-old again after the season. This according to a report from ‘Diario Sport’ last Saturday. ( doohee  )

‘I want Xavi to stay, I’ve spoken to him and I’m adamant about that. We made a promise to Xavi that we would talk after the season. Sometimes the decision will be reconsidered,’ Laporta said.

The Azul president also praised Xavi’s performance, citing the 3-0 win over Atletico Madrid despite the absence of key players such as Frenkie de Jong and Pedro Gon. Salez López Pedri, Joao Cancelo and Andreas Christensen also follow.

‘At the Metropolitano We played without four key players and I can only congratulate Xavi because he made this decision to ensure the team continues to maintain a high level of competition.’

Laporta still believes Barcelona still has a chance to defend the Spanish league title this season if they win the ‘El Clasico’ game against Real Madrid on Sunday the 21st. This April
