New Orleans Saints general manager Mickey Loomis praised Dennis Allen as a “great coach” but said the pressure and stress of the Saints’ job meant the team had to let go of the head coach, NFL Network reported.

The Saints started the 2024 season in style with a 2-0 record, scoring a combined 91 points, but the Saints’ form has been hampered by injury problems and a seven-game losing streak, dropping to 2-7, leading to the decision to fire the 52-year-old head coach. 

“I think Dennis Allen is a great football coach, and I think everyone in our league who talks about him thinks he’s a great football coach,” Loomis said. “He is. I think in this case, the circumstances are what make the statistics. That’s the truth, and a lot of people don’t want to hear it.”

Allen was promoted from defensive coordinator from 2015-2021 to head coach after Sean Payton left the Saints, having previously coached the Oakland Raiders from 2012-2014, where they went 26-53.

‘What was clear was that we had an unusually high number of injuries, including our quarterback, and we couldn’t overcome that. So it put a lot of pressure and stress on the organization, and ultimately, that’s why we made the change.’ ( vox888 )
