Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has revealed the reason behind his decision to take Romeo Lavia off at half-time, as he did not want to risk further injury to the player after he suffered a hamstring injury in Sunday’s 4-3 win over Tottenham Hotspur. 

Lavia impressed in the first half but was taken off the pitch to make way for Malo Gusto at right-back and Moises Caicedo to partner Enzo Fernandez in midfield as Maresca did not want to risk further injury.

‘We had problems with Romeo Lavia so Malo Gusto came on and we moved Moi (Caicedo) into midfield and we just changed the two attacking midfielders a little bit, which in the first half was Enzo and Cole (Palmer). We brought Enzo in a little bit next to Moi and Marc Cucurella came in as another attacking midfielder. ‘

Asked about Lavia’s injury, Maresca said: ‘He had a problem with his hamstring. We felt something, but he’s fine now.’
