( moodeng )Aston Villa defender Tyrone Mings was pleased with his side’s 3-1 win over Club Brugge in the Champions League last 16 first leg on Tuesday, but will not be too complacent about reaching the quarter-finals until the final whistle at Villa Park next week. moodeng

Mings was impressive on both ends of the pitch at the Jan Breydelstadion, assisting Leon Bailey’s opener and saving Hans Vanagin’s clear-cut shot to keep the score level at 1-1. 

Until the last 10 minutes of the game, they added two more goals, scoring a beautiful first win, which many believed would lead them to the quarter-finals, but the English defender did not want to be complacent.

“We’re only halfway through, so I don’t look too high or too low, given the experiences I’ve had throughout my career,” he told Football on TNT Sports.

“We know that the round of 16 is a long way from being through, and they are full of quality. Now that it’s the Champions League knockout round, things can change very quickly.”  

“I knew how well the team defended last night and the result was better than I thought it would be, probably because we started well and then conceded a goal – it was very upsetting but the character we showed, the togetherness, the belief, the contribution of the substitutes, everything came together to make it a great night that we can be very proud of.” 

“The opponent also had many good chances, which is another point where we have to go back and do our homework. This is a game that is decided by the small details, and it is important that the team’s decisions are in the right place at the right time. It is really important.”
