mungme168 England manager Thomas Tuchel admitted he was not happy with the performances of Marcus Rashford and Phil Foden in England’s 2-0 win over Albania on Wednesday.
The forward duo were handed their first start under the German coach, with goals from Myles Lewis-Skelly and Harry Kane in their opening Group K appearance for the 2026 World Cup. mungme168
Tuchel pointed out areas where the team’s discipline in the second half still needed to be improved, including the two offensive players on both sides who were substituted together in the 74th minute, saying that they still did not have enough of an impact on the team.
“We expected a bigger impact in that position,” Tuchel said.
“I hope to see more dribbling, more aggressive moves into the box. Overall it’s something that’s lacking. There’s very little chance created through runs. They’re not as clinical as they should be.
Tuchel also spoke about Foden’s current form, which has clearly fallen off both at Manchester City and in the Three Lions shirt, which has been criticised since Euro 2024.
“We will encourage him to do what he does best: attack defenders, dribble past them.
“Our two wingers started the game without the same impact as at the club. I’m not sure why we struggled to get the ball to them quicker.
“We lacked running without the ball. We passed too many, not enough dribbles, not clinical enough in front of goal. They (Rashford and Foden) have trained well, they are clinical on the training pitch and that’s why they deserve to start. They have done well for their clubs in the last few weeks. We will try to support them.” ( mungme168 )
