Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Matt Nagy expects D.J. Humphries to play up to his standards after the Chiefs signed the 30-year-old former Arizona Cardinals offensive tackle on Tuesday, ESPN reports. pgzen

The Chiefs signed Humphries to a one-year deal to bolster their left tackle options after Vanya Morris and rookie Kingsley Suamataya both struggled to protect Patrick Mahomes’ blind spot, and Nagy expects Humphries to play up to the standards he’s played throughout his career. 

Humphries spent eight seasons in Arizona after being selected by the Cardinals in the first round of the 2015 draft. He started every game and was named to the Pro Bowl in 2021 before suffering a torn ACL late in the 2023 season, recovering and signing with the Chiefs.

Humphries has reportedly started training and is expected to step up to become the Chiefs’ starting left tackle, but Negi would not confirm when that would happen.

‘For players coming back from injury or coming to a new team, it takes time,’ Negi said of Humphries. ‘And I think you have to make sure you make the best decisions, not just for the team, but for the players, so they can be successful.’

‘He’s excited to come in here and learn what we do and what we’re going to do and be a part of it. He’s experienced, so he wants to help in any way he can, but it’s going to take a little bit of time.’ ( pgzen )
