Tennessee Titans general manager Mike Borgonzi has not guaranteed Cam Ward a starting quarterback job, as he wants the 2025 rookie draft pick to compete with untraded tight end Will Lewis, NFL Network reports. ( pgzen )
The Titans added nine more players to their 2025 draft class after selecting Ward with the No. 1 overall pick, and the Miami quarterback quickly communicated with Borgonzi, sending a text message to the Titans GM shortly after the selection.
‘He actually texted me,’ Borgonzi said. ‘He did it quickly.’
However, the Titans are in no rush to give Ward a starting role right now, with Borgonzi saying, “We’re not going to announce a starting lineup here, right now, in the offseason.”
Asked about Lewis’ value to the Titans, Borgonzi said: “Very valuable. There’s competition in every room and he’s going to make that competition even higher. That’s what we’re trying to do here as we go into training camp, is have the best 90-man roster, the best competition in every room, and Will definitely deliver that.”
Ward joins Lewis, Brandon Allen and Tim Boyle as one of four Titans quarterbacks, and Borgonzi said he is pleased with the quarterback room.
“We’ve got a great quarterback room right now with four guys,” Borgonzi said. “That’s going to be Brian (Callaghan) and his staff in terms of the number of practices. As we go through the offseason and into training camp, we’re going to take it step by step here, and that’s going to be Brian in terms of who’s going to be practicing at certain times.”
