Pittsburgh Steelers general manager Omar Khan insists that completing a trade for 24-year-old wide receiver George Pickens to the Dallas Cowboys is a fresh start and the best thing for both parties, according to Brian Batko of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette.

“I’m not going to say ‘disappointed’. We’ve been with George for three years. We’ve had an exciting time. It’s the best thing for both parties to start over,” Khan said, adding that the Cowboys contacted him after the 2025 draft.

‘It happened really quickly. We had some people ask us during the draft, but nothing made any sense. The Cowboys reached out earlier this week and they gave us something to think about. We talked within the organization. We also talked to Dave (Muluketa), George’s agent, who I have a good relationship with. We talked about how George is doing, how he’s doing, and where George is going. This trade makes sense for everybody. ‘

Pickens’ future became clearer after the Steelers traded DK Metcalf from the Seattle Seahawks, before the Steelers offered him a $30 million-a-year contract. Pittsburgh then agreed to trade Pickens, who was entering the final year of his rookie contract, to the Cowboys. 

The Steelers signed 33-year-old wide receiver Robert Woods, joining former 2022 fourth-round draft pick Calvin Austin and 2024 third-round draft pick Roman Wilson, as well as veterans Chase Claypool, Deontay Johnson and James Washington.

“It’s just a coincidence with the position,” Khan said. “We’ve always tried to get good players no matter what position we’re in this year. I think it’s a coincidence, but we want to get good players and good people in. We’re chasing championships. Every decision we make is based on trying to win championships.”

‘Not only in the future, but also this year. We aim to win the championship this year. I know there are a lot of questions about a lot of things, but there is a lot of time between now and the start of the season. I am sure we will try to win the championship this year.’
