The LA Rams have given Matthew Staffard and the 36-year-old quarterback’s agent permission to talk to other teams about his market value, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports. ( pony88 )

Stafford has a $49.6 million cap hit in 2025, but the Rams could save $27 million if the 36-year-old is traded after June 1 and $23 million if he is released after that date.

Stafford is now likely to move on after signing a new contract with the Rams before the start of the 2024 season. He threw for 3,762 yards, 20 touchdowns and eight interceptions as the Rams won the NFC West, despite a solid performance in a win over the Minnesota Vikings before falling out of the divisional playoffs following a loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. 

The Rams will need to improve at quarterback whether Stafford stays, either through free agency or in the 2025 draft, with the No. 26 pick as backup quarterback Jimmy Garoppolo is set to become a free agent and former 2023 fourth-round draft pick Stetson Bennett has yet to play in a regular-season game.

If the Rams and Stafford part ways this offseason, the 36-year-old quarterback will wrap up a four-year stint in LA with 14,700 yards, 95 touchdowns, 44 interceptions, a 95.2 rating, a 34-23 record and a Super Bowl 56 championship.
