Dallas Cowboys defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus believes his familiarity with the team from his previous experience will help him create exciting plays for the Cowboys, NFL Network reports.  popslot

Eberflus, 54, was brought in to be the defensive coordinator under new Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer. Although Eberflus failed to become head coach with the Chicago Bears, he had previously made a name for himself as the defensive coordinator for the Indianapolis Colts, earning the trust of Cowboys executives. 

‘It’s simple, we’re going to get the ball,’ Eberflus said. ‘That’s what we’re going to do. We’re going to stop the run, and we want to create an exciting game for our football team.’

Eberflus also served as the Cowboys’ linebackers coach from 2011-2017 before moving on to coach the Colts’ defensive backs for four years and then the Bears’ head coach for a little over two seasons.

“I’ve been here seven years ago, so I know the (Jones) family really well,” Eberflus said. “I know the community, I know the fan base, and I’m excited to be back. That’s what excites me the most, the fan base, the players we get to work with and working with the Jones family and Brian Schottenheimer.”

“I’ve always loved game planning, working with the players and dictating the game on game day. That’s what I’ve always loved doing, going up against some of the best offensive coaches in this league. That’s what’s fun for me and our team to plan together.”

Eberflus also said of Cowboys star linebacker Micah Parsons, “Micah’s a great pass rusher. We’re going to use him that way for sure, and he’s a great athlete who can do a lot of things for us on defense, and when you have a guy like that, you want to take advantage of his skills. When we’re around him more, we’re going to see what those skills are and really take advantage of them.”
