The injury was reportedly a ruptured right cruciate ligament after Ryan collided with rookie wide receiver Equanimias St. Brown during Monday’s practice.
Ryan, an inside linebacker, had 81 tackles, one sack and one fumble in 15 games (12 starts) in 2017. A fourth-round draft pick out of Michigan in 2015, Ryan has appeared in 43 games over the past three seasons, starting 27, and was the Packers’ starting lineup in 2018.
Replacing Ryan won’t be easy, and the Packers could be tempted to use Oren Burks, a third-round draft pick from Vanderbilt, as a backup to starting inside linebackers Jake Ryan and Blake Martinez. But Packers general manager Brian Gutkunst could look to free agent to add another player, with top linebackers Brian Cushing, Lawrence Timmons and Navarro Bowman all out. ( popslot )
