The Pittsburgh Steelers have confirmed the release of 33-year-old linebacker Preston Smith, freeing them up to $13 million in 2025 salary-cap space, ESPN reports. popslot
The Steelers traded Smith with a seventh-round pick in the 2025 draft from the Green Bay Packers before the November deadline. He played in eight games without starting and sat out two of the Steelers’ final three games, including a wild-card playoff loss to the Baltimore Ravens.
Smith had 13 tackles, three forced fumbles, two quarterback pressures, two sacks and a fumble recovery. Releasing the 33-year-old edge rusher will save the Steelers $13.4 million in 2025 salary cap space with no dead money coming from the deal.
Throughout his 10-year career, Smith has made 443 tackles, 74 forced fumbles, 157 quarterback pressures, 70.5 sacks, forced 10 fumbles, 27 pass breakups and five interceptions against the Washington Commanders, Packers and Steelers. ( popslot )
