sunlit1688 The fifth and final major of the year, and the only major to be held in the UK, the AIG Women’s Open kicks off next week with defending champion Lydia Ko of New Zealand leading the world’s top players at Royal Porthcawl in Wales. only three players have won more than one major in the same year: Lilia Woo (2023), Ko Jin-young (2019) and Park In-bee (2015). Australia’s Minjee Lee and Grace Kim, Japan’s Mao Seiko and Sweden’s Maya Stark are aiming to repeat their second major title of the year. Here are four of their victories:

Mao Saiko won the 2025 Chevron Championship by defeating five competitors in a playoff, the most playoffs in LPGA Tour major history and the first career major win for the 20-year-old Japanese golfer.

Mao took the lead after 54 holes but finished two over par in the final round, forcing her to face off against four other top golfers in Ariya Jutanugarn, Kim Hyo-joo, Yin Ruoning and Lindy Duncan in a playoff. The young Japanese golfer achieved her dream on the first playoff hole after sinking a three-foot birdie putt on the par-5 18th to secure a grand victory.

Sweden’s Maya Stark, 25, was the first major champion to win this year and beat some of the world’s best at Erin Hills. She started the final day with a one-stroke lead over second-place Julia Lopez Lamirez and two ahead of world number one Nelly Korda and Japanese star Rio Takeda.

But Stark played it safe and played an even-par finish that would put her on the map with a shot that would put her in the same league as the world’s top major champions. (sunlit1688)
