Rafinha explains racist incident at Bernabeu Superpg1688

Rafinha was among Barcelona players, along with Lamine Yamal and Ansu Fati, targeted by a number of Real Madrid fans at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium as the Blaugrana won 4-0, with a case of racial abuse against Barca players under investigation, El País reported on Sunday. 

The 27-year-old forward has spoken to El País about his experience of the incident and explained why he and his team-mates did not report the racial abuse at the time. 

‘We’ve talked about it, it’s different for everyone. Of course it bothers you, we do our job, we know that fans of other teams can try to do everything to make things not go well for you and we have to stay focused, but when they look down on you and you are looked down on, it’s more complicated than that. 

‘I spoke to Ansu and he told me what happened to him. He was more upset. We heard that Lamine was telling us something but we didn’t really understand what they were saying to us. But Ansu understood. After the game we watched the video and that’s when we realised what they were saying to us,’ Rafinha said.

Real Madrid forward Vinicius Junior has been the target of racist abuse in the past, but his reactions have often been criticised, but Rafinha has come out in defence of his compatriot.

‘Of course I understand him. We don’t know what happened in his childhood. We don’t know what he heard when he was a child. These things push people to their limits and it bothers him a lot.’

‘Vinicius is a cheerful boy, he always likes to joke. The only problem that bothers him the most is this. I understand his anger, but I am not in his situation, so I cannot tell you what I should do.’ ( Superpg1688  )
