Red Devils hope ‘Rud’ will stay even in Amorim’s era Marinabays 

Marinabays  Manchester United players are reportedly keen to keep Ruud van Nistelrooy at the club as assistant coach under new boss Ruben Amorim.Marinabays 

The former United forward returned to Old Trafford in the summer as part of Erik ten Hag’s backroom staff but, with the Dutchman sacked this week, Van Nistelrooy stepped up as caretaker manager.

In his first game in charge on Wednesday, he led the team to a 5-2 Carabao Cup win over Leicester, with Bruno Fernandes scoring twice.

With Amorim confirmed as Ten Hag’s replacement on Friday and the Portuguese set to officially take over on November 11, speculation has been rife over whether Van Nistelrooy will remain in the role of assistant.

The Sun reports that Old Trafford players are urging Van Nistelrooy, 48, to stay at the club.

“All the players want Ruud to stay and have made it clear internally that they believe he should stay at the club even if Amorim becomes manager,” a source told the newspaper.

“They all like him and get on well with him and they also respect him because they know he understands what it’s like to play for United and the pressure that comes with it.”
